Seva Chakkara Orphanage Home

Peace Begins with a Smile

An orphanage blossomed from the loss of vision in the eye of a man who made it his mission to serve with passion and compassion. This is the genesis of Seva Chakkara Orphanageโ€”a one-man mission with a vision of passion and compassion.

Founder: Shri A. Velayudham, M.A., who is partially blind with an artificial eye. Following an accident that resulted in the loss of vision in his right eye, he was inspired to uplift orphans, the destitute, the downtrodden, and the physically and mentally challenged. This includes husbands who have deserted their wives, widows, unmarried mothers, elderly individuals, street children, and others suffering from a lack of basic necessities like food, clothing, and shelter. He founded the orphanage in 1986 after serving in various departments such as Medical, Corporation, Telephones, R.M.S, and Judiciary for over three and a half decades.

The Seva Chakkara Orphanage began with just five orphans. With the blessings of the Supreme Being and the support of philanthropists, donors, well-wishers, and like-minded individuals, the orphanage has gradually grown into a substantial organization. Currently, it supports 110 individuals, with 84 students studying from U.K.G. to higher education levels including I.T.I, Nursing, Diploma, and various Degree Courses such as Engineering and M.B.A.

โ— Residential Primary School: The orphanage runs a primary school for younger children (grades I-V). After completing primary education, children write open examinations and attend grades VI onwards in local schools while continuing to live at the orphanage.
โ— Vocational Training: As children grow older, the orphanage provides vocational training on a case-by-case basis. This includes computer-based vocational skills.
โ— Support for the Needy: Although primarily focused on children, the orphanage also supports needy and helpless individuals, including homeless elderly people and abused women. They help find jobs for these women through donors and support them until they become self-sufficient.
